Why We Publish Only One Used Car Value

One of the many things we have learned throughout our history in the wholesale automotive industry is that there is much greater consensus regarding what constitutes a "clean" car than what constitutes an "average" or "rough" car. What one dealer sees as a "rough" car, another sees as "average." In our experience, dealers are able to agree on the description "clean". Because this is the case, all of the prices in our books are based on "clean" vehicles. Dealers often add for an exceptionally clean vehicle, and deduct appropriately if they feel a vehicle needs enough work to rate it as "average" or "rough." We think that dealers and consumers alike benefit from a consistent and clear starting point in the appraisal process.

Why No Retail Values?

Unlike many of those "free" Internet sites, Galves doesn't publish retail values. We do not believe there is enough reliable information regarding actual retail transaction prices to publish valid retail pricing. What a dealer "asks" for a car and what a consumer "pays" for a car can be thousands of dollars apart. Therefore, basing retail values on "asking prices" can be very misleading. And our experience has been that finding out the final prices paid for vehicles is not such an easy task.

The difficulty in getting actual transaction price information is further complicated by other variables that can affect retail sales, including: cost of reconditioning, extent of warranty, cost of advertising, any special financing, any certification, etc. Much of the suggested retail pricing found on the Internet tends to be unrealistic. And when you encounter what seems like an exorbitant spread between a trade-in value and a retail value, something is wrong! Either their trade-in value is too low, their retail too high, or both. We have learned to be skeptical of such pricing, and so should you.

There is, on the other hand, a great deal of accurate information on which to base wholesale values. Since retail pricing is primarily based on the wholesale transaction, knowing a 'true' wholesale value is the best place to start thinking about what is fair retail pricing. That's what Galves provides and as always, you can trust us for the most up-to-date and accurate pricing information available. We offer the Galves Money Back Guarantee so you have nothing to lose and lots to gain.
