Galves - 1964

                                       A Brief History of Galves

Galves Auto Price List was first published in 1957 by M.C. Galves Inc., perhaps oldest automotive wholesale company in the United States. From the time M.C. Galves began doing business in the 1920s, the company quickly became the focal point of the nation's largest concentration of wholesale automobile dealers-- historic Jerome Ave. in Bronx, NY.

An industry leader, Galves recognized the need for an accurate and reliable price guide to help dealers function effectively in the rapidly expanding marketplace.

Beginning with the American & Foreign Editions in 1957, Galves began delivering the most current information weekly via first class mail. Within the next few years, Galves Auto Price List had become the book of choice throughout the Northeast, the country's largest and most active dealer marketplace.

In 1991 Galves led the exodus of wholesale dealers from Jerome Ave. and helped establish a new dealer complex in Teterboro, NJ. Most of the Jerome Avenue dealers quickly followed Galves to their new home in New Jersey. Today, Galves Auto Price List remains at the heart of the industry and continues to reap the benefits of being located within one of the nations most prominent wholesale markets

Our Pricing Perspective
Galves Price Guides for used car, used car values, used car pricing, trade-in values.

Galves "actual cash value" represents what a vehicle in good condition is immediately worth in the wholesale market AND more importantly what a majority of dealers would be willing to pay for such a vehicle. Using our guides will give you the safety and confidence that only a Galves value can provide. Galves is used by dealers, wholesalers, banks, leasing companies, and others who have one thing in common: the need to know what a given vehicle is worth in today's wholesale market.

All price guides attempt to accurately reflect what a vehicle should be worth. Galves values reflect the trade-in level. We think this level is the most useful to dealers. It allows them to absorb the expenses of selling vehicles either to other dealers or wholesalers or sell them at auction. They know that if a vehicle is exceptional and needs little or no reconditioning, they can pay over the suggested “book” price. They know that if they buy the vehicle at auction they can expect to pay a bit over “book”.

It is, coincidentally, also the perspective that makes the most sense for consumers. Our values reflect where consumers often find themselves in the marketplace- trading in a vehicle. Dealers know that for them to trade consumers’ vehicles successfully the pricing guide they use has to be competitive in the market. If pricing is too high they lose money, if it’s too low they lose deals. This delicate balance means that consumers get treated fairly as well. Our pricing reflects that balance and is definitely the right place for consumers to come if they want to know what their vehicle is worth in the current market.
